In many experimental settings or other studies, the need for a list of random numbers may be interesting or required. The classic apprioach was to use a table, but now we are definitely in the PC age. This may be for group allocation or other design purposes. Most specialised software can do this, as the recommended software at NVH - JMP and Stata. Some other options using Excel or the web:
- Excel also hs functions for this (invoke the analyses toolpack). Here you can run coin tossing or use many other distributions as well. Requires some training.. read help texts in Excel or on the web. OR - download one of many add-ins to Excel... You may need to pay for this... An alternative is also to use functions in the spreadsheet itself.
- OpenEpi can be used for simple lists of random numbers http://www.openepi.com/Menu/OpenEpiMenu.htm
- GraphPad has some interesting On-line calculators. http://www.graphpad.com/quickcalcs/index.cfm. Notice that here do you also find tables for a range of distributions. For random number generation use the random number calculator.
- Download special software as Random Allocation Software, works well for block randomisation http://mahmoodsaghaei.tripod.com/Softwares/randalloc.html
